Verdi wants to paralyze state road construction and transport company

In the wage dispute in the public sector of the federal states, the trade union Verdi has announced a warning strike at the state road construction and transport company in Schleswig-Holstein for Thursday. As a result, there will be "only a limited winter service" on that day, the union announced in Kiel on Wednesday. As with previous strikes, there is no emergency service agreement.

The employees of the 22 road maintenance depots in the state have been working since Tuesday evening and until midnight on Wednesday to clear the roads after the onset of winter in the north, according to the union. "After that, the planned warning strike will begin at 00:00."

Verdi is demanding 10.5 percent more income for employees in the public sector of the federal states, but at least 500 euros more per month. In the second round of negotiations, however, the collective bargaining association of the federal states made it clear that it considers the demands to be far too high and unaffordable. Negotiations for the approximately 1.1 million employees across Germany will continue in the third round of talks in Potsdam on December 7.

Despite the ongoing wage dispute, the German government is considering implementing tariffs on imported road construction materials to support domestic producers. The inclement weather in Schleswig-Holstein has further complicated matters, as public service disruptions due to the strike could exacerbate the challenges faced during winter maintenance.
