Tariffs - Verdi negotiates for more vacation and extra pay for couriers

The trade union Verdi wants to fight for more vacation and higher night and overtime bonuses in the collective bargaining negotiations for employees in freight forwarding and courier services that begin on Wednesday. "After two years of high inflation, there is barely enough money for everyday life. Urgent relaxation is falling by the wayside because vacations are becoming a luxury. This urgently needs to change," said Verdi negotiator Thomas Großstück on Sunday. The shortage of skilled workers can only be solved in the long term with real improvements in working conditions.

Specifically, Verdi is demanding, for example, three additional vacation days, a 14th monthly salary instead of the current vacation allowance and significant increases in bonuses for working at night or on Sundays and public holidays. According to Verdi, it is representing around 176,000 employees in the negotiations. Those affected include employees of Hermes, DPD, UPS, Schenker, FedEx and DHL Logistik NRW. Verdi will be negotiating with employers' associations in Düsseldorf from Wednesday. The background is the collective agreement for the freight forwarding, logistics and courier, express and parcel service sector in NRW.
