Tariffs - Verdi holds out the prospect of several days of daycare center warning strikes
Parents of children in the kindergarten cooperatives of the state must prepare for multiple-day closures. The union Verdi called for further warning strikes, to emphasize their demands for better working conditions for the approximately 7500 affected employees. There will be another labor dispute on the coming Thursday, Verdi announced on Friday. If the Senate still refuses to engage in corresponding wage negotiations, Verdi threatens with a five-day strike from July 8 to 12.
The union demands a separate collective bargaining agreement for pedagogical quality in the institutions and relief for the employees. It's not about more money. A collective bargaining agreement for the public service of the states had already been reached a few months ago. Finanzsenator Stefan Evers (CDU) rejects new wage negotiations. Berlin cannot be extracted from the collective bargaining community of the states, which the state belongs to.
"Finanzsenator Evers presents formal arguments as to why Berlin allegedly cannot negotiate", Verdi-Regional Manager Andrea Kühnemann stated. "If there is a serious political will to find solutions, ways can be found to deal with the supposed formal problems."
Verdi has already called for warning strikes several times in this context. The state-owned kindergartens were closed last Thursday.
The warning strikes by Verdi continue, with Stefan Evers and the United Services Union at odds. Evers' rejection of new wage negotiations for kindergarten employees in Berlin has led to a potential five-day strike from July 8 to 12, aiming to improve working conditions and pedagogical quality. Berlintariffs may also be impacted if this strike proceeds, as the Kindergartens play a significant role in the city.
