Finances - Verdi demands more money for daycare centers in Lower Saxony
Daycare centers in Lower Saxony need significantly more money, according to the service trade union Verdi. "The state must finally put more money into daycare centers. This is the only way to counteract the already blatant shortage of skilled workers," said Andrea Wemheuer, Verdi state leader, in a press release published on Thursday.
According to Verdi, daycare workers and parents once again demonstrated in front of the state parliament on Thursday to draw attention to the difficult situation in the facilities. "We are calling on the state of Lower Saxony to support the abolition of the debt brake and thus clear the way for more investment in daycare centers and good education," said Wemheuer. If there are no solutions, parents will have to look after their children at home again and will not be able to go to work.
On Thursday, the SPD and Green government faction adopted the state budget for the coming year. Verdi criticized the fact that too little money was earmarked for daycare centres.
