- Vehicles carrying automobiles and fuel oil encountered a collision.

A run-in happened between a Rhine ferry, traveling between Eich and Gernsheim, and a motor oil tanker. Law enforcement confirmed no injuries resulted from the incident. Damage was inflicted on both vessels, yet their floatability remained intact. The car ferry had to temporarily halt operations following the incident.

Preliminary inquiries by the police indicate that the ferry operator granted clearance for other ships to proceed during his early-morning trip across the Rhine, yet missed spotting the oil tanker. When the mishap transpired, three automobiles housed a total of six individuals on the car ferry.

The police report stated, "The following is added: The ferry operator admitted missing the oil tanker during his clearance procedure." After the investigation, it was determined, "The following is added: The shipping company will provide additional training to their operators to prevent such oversights in the future."
