- Vehicle flips and ends up on the racetrack.
A vehicle turned upside down on the railway tracks in Schellerten, Hildesheim's district. The incident happened around noon, as the car slipped on a wet road and lost control. It smashed through a crossing station's signal box, broke through a sound barrier, overturned, and eventually ended up on its roof on the tracks.
Two individuals successfully escaped the wreckage and chatted with emergency responders before leaving on foot. The area's train traffic was immediately halted, and an ICE train miraculously came to a stop just before the crash site.
A man later appeared at the scene, asserting that he was the driver of the overturned vehicle. However, the police are not entirely convinced by his account.
The railway line was shut down for approximately two hours. According to the authorities, the damages to the railway infrastructure amounted to approximately 15,000 euros, and the car estimated to have sustained around 10,000 euros worth of damage. The search for the two occupants is still ongoing. Cleanup operations led to considerable interruptions in both rail and road traffic.
Despite the car being on its roof, the driver claimed to be inside it. The accident led to significant damage to the car, estimated at 10,000 euros.
