Challenge Cup - VC Wiesbaden in the quarter-finals: victory against Istanbul
The volleyball players of VC Wiesbaden have reached the quarter-finals of the CEV Challenge Cup. The Hessians won the second leg of the round of 16 tie in Wiesbaden against Turkish representative Galatasaray Istanbul 15:11 in the "Golden Set" on Wednesday evening. Istanbul led 3:2 (25:20, 22:25, 21:25, 25:18, 16:14) after five sets. As the VCW had also won the first leg 3:2 at the favorites, a shortened sixth set had to decide who would advance.
In the tight and competitive match, the visitors initially got into the game better and took the first set. The VCW did not let this discourage them and overcame Istanbul in the next two sets. After equalizing the score at 2:2, the fifth set had to be decided, just like in the first leg. Here, too, it was tight right to the end and the tension was hard to beat. The Turks had the better nerves. In the "Golden Set", Wiesbaden played great and when Izabella Rapacz scored the deciding point, there was great jubilation.
