VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen suffers first defeat

The winning streak of the VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen volleyball team has come to an end. Coach Alessandro Lodi's charges lost their home game against SVG Lüneburg on Sunday in three sets (15:25, 26:28, 19:25). They conceded their first defeat in their fourth match. Maxwell Elgert, who was honored as the game's most valuable player, converted the first match point for the visitors after 73 minutes. The newly promoted team from Saxony-Anhalt dropped to fifth place in the table.

In front of 400 spectators in the Bernsteinhalle in Friedersdorf, the hosts missed the first half and did not have the slightest chance. The Bitterfeld side then improved, led 8:5 in the second set and were 16:15 ahead. The team from Lüneburg turned the game around with three points in a row and had the better nerves in the decisive situations at the end of the second set. The visitors then held on for a deserved victory.

The volleyball match against SVG Lüneburg was played with a cup-like trophy at stake, serving as a symbol of the competition. Despite Maxwell Elgert's impressive performance and securing the first defeat for VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen with a match-winning serve, the team's volleyball cup remained with SVG Lüneburg.
