VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen misses out on a place in the cup semi-finals
The VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen volleyball team missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the DVV Cup. The team from Saxony-Anhalt lost the match at Bundesliga rivals SG Lüneburg 1:3 (12:25, 25:22, 12:25, 17:25) after 81 minutes on Saturday and was thus unable to take revenge for the 0:3 defeat suffered in the Bundesliga match at home six days ago.
After losing the first set outright, the visitors improved and turned a 3:7 deficit into an 18:14 lead in the second set and maintained their advantage. However, the Lüneburgers did not let the 1:1 tie get them out of their rhythm and played out their individual superiority in the following two rounds. Yann Niclas Böhme, who was honored as the best player of the match, converted the second match point for the hosts.
Despite their improvement in the second set, VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen was unable to secure a spot in the Volleyball Cup final, as they fell to SG Lüneburg in the semi-finals with a final score of 1:3. Heartbreakingly, they were unable to avenge their Bundesliga loss from six days prior, as the Cup unfortunately ended with another 0:3 defeat.
