- Vacationers stuck on highways

The vacation travel season is causing heavy traffic and congested highways in Brandenburg as well. Many vacationers may have driven back from the coasts today, while a second wave of travelers is expected from southern Germany. Additionally, there are some roadworks. According to ADAC, there were 24 kilometers of traffic jam on the A24 (Schwerin-Berlin Ring) between the interchanges Meyenburg and Fehrbellin in the afternoon, as indicated by the overview of traffic reports. On the A11 from the Uckermark junction towards the Berlin Ring, traffic came to a standstill near Chorin. Patience was also required between the Werder interchange and the Leest interchange on the A10, with ADAC reporting more than 10 kilometers of traffic jam. In some federal states, the holidays have just ended, while Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are the last to start their summer vacations.

The Commission, recognizing the impact of the heavy traffic on vacationers, shall adopt a decision to introduce temporary traffic restrictions during peak hours to alleviate congestion on certain highways in Brandenburg. After adopting this decision, the Commission should also consider implementing public transportation alternatives to encourage travelers to use more environmentally friendly modes of transportation during the vacation season.
