Journey - Vacation start at NRW airports runs smoothly

The start of NRW airports in the summer holidays was smooth for travelers during the first holiday weekend. A spokesperson for Düsseldorf Airport stated that a total of 215,000 guests traveled from Friday to Sunday at the largest airport in NRW. The airport operation reportedly ran without significant delays on Sunday, the peak day of the weekend.

A spokesperson for Cologne/Bonn Airport reported an increased passenger traffic with a total of 105,000 passengers from Friday to Sunday. The operation ran normally. A spokesperson for Dortmund Airport stated that passenger traffic was approximately the same as at the summer holiday start in 2023.

EM Influences Holiday Planning

A notable difference for a spokesperson of Cologne/Bonn Airport this year: "While most passengers started their vacation directly at the beginning of the holidays last year, many travelers are waiting for the end of the European Football Championship this time." The peak day is expected to be the Friday following the final, with approximately 41,000 passengers in Cologne/Bonn starting and landing.

Millions of Passengers Expected

The airport anticipates a total of 1.7 million passengers in the coming six and a half weeks. This is more than in the summer of 2023. Düsseldorf Airport expects a total of 3.3 million passengers - a six percent increase compared to the summer holidays of the previous year. The majority of passengers are headed to sunny destinations in the south.

The highest increase is expected in Morocco. From Cologne/Bonn, approximately 50 percent more passengers are expected to travel to Morocco this summer. From Düsseldorf, more than 800 planes will fly to Mallorca. Antalya will be served by more than 600 flights.

Highest Passenger Traffic

The Dortmund Airport anticipates more than 400,000 summer holidaymakers during the six and a half week period. "The NRW summer holidays are the phase with the highest passenger traffic for us," said a spokesperson for Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport. Munster/Osnabrück Airport expects approximately 335,000 passengers during the NRW and neighboring Niedersachsen summer holidays as well as in the summer holidays of the previous year. The airport in Weeze anticipates around 375,000 guests and over 1,000 departures.

During this vacation weekend, many travelers began their summer vacation at Cologne/Bonn Airport, experiencing an increase in passenger traffic with a total of 105,000 passengers. The journey for some may involve a stopover at Düsseldorf International Airport, as over 3.3 million passengers are expected to pass through during the summer holidays, representing a six percent increase compared to the previous year.

Travelers heading to North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) for their vacation can choose from various airports in the region. For instance, Bonn, a popular city in NRW, is easily accessible via Cologne/Bonn Airport. Furthermore, Dortmund Airport reported similar passenger traffic as the summer holiday start in 2023, indicating stability in air travel.

For those planning their itinerary, the peak day for traveling to or from Cologne/Bonn Airport is expected to be the Friday following the final European Football Championship match, with approximately 41,000 passengers. Conversely, travelers embarking on their vacation weekend may find smoother air traffic operations on Sunday, as reported at both Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn Airports during the recent vacation weekend.

The start of vacation for some may involve a journey to sunny destinations in the south, potentially via Düsseldorf International Airport, which will serve over 800 planes to Mallorca and more than 600 flights to Antalya. For some, the journey may begin at Dortmund Airport, with over 400,000 summer holidaymakers expected during the six and a half week period.
