Hertha BSC - Vacation plans forbidden: Coach Dardai calls for last reserve
After eight competitive games without defeat, Hertha coach Pal Dardai is calling for a total focus on the end of the season in the 2nd division. "We need our last reserves to give everything for three points," said the 47-year-old on Thursday in view of the final first-half game at home to VfL Osnabrück on Saturday (1pm/Sky).
Against the bottom-placed team from Lower Saxony, Dardai also sees dangers in the players' subconscious. "Holiday feelings can be dangerous. I've experienced it myself as a player," said the Hungarian, who has also forbidden his professionals from talking about their time off at home after the game against the promoted side and any vacation plans with their partners: "If everyone is thinking about their vacation, they'll be 20 centimetres short in a duel."
In addition, the coach will have to find a good balance between intensive training and regeneration in view of the injured and ailing players. On Wednesday, just 17 players were able to take part in what Dardai described as "intensive training".
Despite the personnel and possibly mental problems, Dardai is taking the players to task. Although he is satisfied with the current 24 points, "if the boys get three points, I'll be more than happy."
