Vacation apartment opened in the "Hamburger Leuchtturm" in Cuxhaven

The inactive "Hamburg Lighthouse" on the Alte Liebe in Cuxhaven can be booked as a vacation home in future. The first vacation guests are expected to stay there from 2024. "We really care about looking after the Hamburger Leuchtturm monument," said the new owner Katrin Mormann at the opening on Friday. The lighthouse was built at the beginning of the 19th century on behalf of the city of Hamburg and was in operation until 2001.

The new owners from Hanover had bought the important Cuxhaven monument, which stands on a viewing platform at the mouth of the Elbe in the immediate vicinity of the port, from a former entrepreneur from Bremen at the beginning of the year. The 23-metre-high tower was renovated and extended in such a way that the monumental structure was preserved - including the beacon.

On the first floor, school classes and guided tourist groups can learn about the history of the lighthouse in a small exhibition by prior arrangement. Above this is the vacation apartment with around 60 square meters: Bathroom on the second floor, living room on the second floor, a kitchenette on the third floor and a double bed at the top. Two guests can spend their vacation there for just under 400 euros per night with a view of the sea.

Holidaymakers will also be able to stay in the historic water tower in Cuxhaven in the future. A Swiss couple are currently converting the 48-metre-high tower, which dates back to 1897, into a café and three vacation apartments. The opening has had to be repeatedly postponed recently. There are many reasons for this - such as monument and fire protection requirements, the pandemic, cost explosions, energy prices, lack of craftsmen or delivery difficulties.

The transformation of the "Hamburger Leuchtturm" into a vacation apartment is likely to boost tourism in Cuxhaven, attracting visitors interested in historical monuments. With the presence of this unique vacation home, the city's real estate market could also see an increase in demand, potentially making it a popular destination for real estate investors.
