Fire department operation - Vacant hotel burns in Hamburg

A vacant hotel building in Hamburg has caught fire. According to the police, the emergency services were called to the fire in the Harburg district late on Saturday evening. Part of the building caught fire for as yet unexplained reasons. The extinguishing work was difficult due to the location of the building, as the incident commander told a dpa reporter at the scene. According to the incident commander, the operation is expected to continue until the early hours of the morning. Around 100 firefighters were on site.

Surrounding residents in Harburg-Eissendorf were initially asked to keep their windows and doors closed and to turn off ventilation systems due to the fumes from the fire. The warning was lifted early on Sunday morning. According to initial findings, no one was injured.
