USA pledges three billion dollars for green climate fund

The GCF is one of the most important instruments of international climate financing. The fund is intended to support climate protection and adaptation to climate impacts in developing countries. The industrialized countries had actually pledged 100 billion dollars per year for these goals from 2020, some of which will flow into the GCF. According to preliminary estimates, the sum was reached for the first time in 2022 and is expected to be reached in 2023.

Harris pointed out that the USA had massively increased its climate protection efforts since President Joe Biden took office. "Today, we are showing through action how the world can and must confront the climate crisis," she said during the summit segment of the heads of state and government in Dubai. Harris referred to the rapidly progressing expansion of wind and solar energy in the USA and a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Biden had originally wanted to travel to the climate conference himself, but was then represented by Harris. The Vice President called on the international community to make additional efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees. "We must do more to keep 1.5 degrees within reach," she said. Now is the time to make sure this happens.
