Upper Palatinate - Upsrooted trees and closed railway track due to storm

In Bavaria, during the night leading to Sunday, several trees were uprooted, roofs were damaged, and cellars flooded due to heavy rain and gales. A railway line in the Landkreis Regensburg was affected and temporarily closed. Already on Saturday evening, there had been approximately 17 weather-related incidents within nearly two hours in the Oberpfalz region, eight of which occurred in the Regenstauf Police Inspection District (Landkreis Regensburg), according to a police spokesperson. The main cause of these incidents were trees and branches on the road.

The German Railways closed the track near Regenstauf in the Landkreis Regensburg on Saturday evening due to a fallen tree. The track was reopened again after approximately three hours, according to a railway spokesperson. The RE2 and RE40 were affected.

Fire department personnel were also in action in Regenstauf to clear roads and vehicles of uprooted trees, cover roofs with tarps, and pump out cellars, as a fire department spokesperson reported. The roads were reportedly clear again early in the morning by a police spokesperson, and the weather situation was calm. Damage assessments were not yet provided by the spokespersons.

Fire department personnel were also occupied in Niederbayern due to the nightly storm. Particularly in the Landkreis Rottal-Inc, they attended to 30 incidents - mostly due to uprooted trees, as a police spokesperson reported. Four cars collided with trees, one person sustained minor injuries. Additionally, the roof of a single-family house caught fire due to a lightning strike. No one was injured, the damage was estimated to be around 20,000 Euros.
