Price adjustment - Upper Elbe transport association increases prices from April 2024

The Upper Elbe Transport Association (VVO) is increasing its prices by 7.7 percent in the coming year. One of the reasons for this is the sharp rise in the cost of energy and materials, according to a statement from the VVO following a meeting of the association on Thursday. The adjustment will be made on April 1. A single journey in Dresden will then cost 3.20 euros (previously 3 euros), while the price will rise to 3 euros in all other fare zones.

The VVO, which is divided into twelve companies, expects 184 million passengers by the end of the year, around ten percent more than in the previous year. The area covered by the network extends across the districts of Meißen, Bautzen and Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge as well as Dresden. It covers a total of 1.2 million inhabitants.

The price increase affects not only Dresden but also other areas within Saxony, including Meißen, Bautzen, and Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, as the Upper Elbe Transport Association operates in these regions. Due to the price adjustment, residents and visitors relying on public transport may need to budget more for their commuting costs starting April 2024.
