Upcoming parliamentary elections polls indicate lead for AfD in Saxony and Thuringia
In Saxony, a survey suggests the AfD secures 32% of votes, surpassing the CDU with 30%. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) trails behind with 15%, followed by SPD at 6% and Greens at 5%. The Left Party fails to secure a spot in Dresden's state parliament with 4%.
In Thuringia, the AfD maintains its lead with 30%, closely trailed by the CDU at 21% and BSW at 20%. The Left, led by Minister-President Bodo Ramelow, stands at 14%, and SPD at 6%. Neither the Greens nor the FDP manage to make it into Thuringia's state parliament with 3% each.
The CDU in Saxony refuses to collaborate with the AfD but considers the BSW as a potential partner. In Thuringia, all parties veto partnerships with the AfD, with the CDU also rejecting ties with The Left and Greens. Partnerships with the BSW are also a contentious issue within the CDU.
This survey was conducted by the Insa Institute, interviewing 1,000 eligible voters in Saxony and Thuringia each, from Monday to Friday. Both states prepare to elect a fresh state parliament next Sunday.
In light of the survey results, the CDU in Saxony might reconsider its stance on partnering with the Election to the Landtag winner BSW, given their close margin with the AfD. In the upcoming election in Saxony, it's crucial to note that the CDU could potentially lose its position as the most voted party to the AfD.
