Upcoming German Innovation Awards – Various research groups showcasing their initiatives

Commencing this year, contestants with affiliations to Bavaria's Free State are in the running - following last year's esteemed recipients: The competition for the esteemed German Future Prize is underway once more.

- Upcoming German Innovation Awards – Various research groups showcasing their initiatives

Cutting-edge, commerce-friendly innovations are the ones aiming for the esteemed German Future Prize, awarded by the Federal President. At 11:00 AM on Wednesday, three contending research groups will showcase their contesting projects, shortlisted for this prestigious science award, at the German Museum in Munich.

Through a comprehensive selection process, the jury has chosen projects this year all sharing a bond with Bavaria. Themes range from advancements in AI and renewable energy sources. Merely being nominated is considered a high recognition.

The prize ceremony will take place on November 27 in Berlin, with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as the presenter. The victorious team's identities will be kept under wraps until the very last minute – the jury decides the winner on the day itself.

The German Future Prize, valued at 250,000 euros, is one of Germany's most prestigious science awards.

The crown was bestowed upon a team of researchers from Erlangen last year, for the creation of a novel device for magnetic resonance tomography (MRT).

In 2020, the prize was given to researchers from Carl Zeiss Microscopy in Jena for their innovative microscopy technique, improving the study of living cells.

In 2021, BioNTech co-founders Özlem Türeci and Uğur Şahin were recognized with the prize, their groundbreaking research on mRNA technology and the COVID-19 vaccine making them worldwide sensations.

The projects competing for the German Future Prize are sponsored and supported by various entities within the European Union, given its significance in cutting-edge research. The winning team of the prize in 2021, BioNTech's co-founders Özlem Türeci and Uğur Şahin, are not only renowned in Germany but are also celebrated worldwide for their contributions to mRNA technology and the development of the COVID-19 vaccine.
