Upcoming German Eco Award in 2024 Honors Moor Specialist and Engineer
Tanneberger, as a celebrated researcher globally, continuously commends Moore for being a shield for environmental conservation and biodiversity. Her investigations indicate that irrigation and farming can coexist. Moreover, Tanneberger, serving as the co-director of the Greifswald Moor Centrum in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, has substantially contributed to the initial worldwide assessment of peatland conditions.
Speidel's tank systems for electric vehicles, according to his statement, function similarly to a multifunctional Swiss Army knife in the context of the energy transformation. The purpose of this technology is to accelerate the growth of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. These swift chargers can be effortlessly installed not just on roads but also on buildings lacking garages or in crowded urban zones.
With these systems, power is gradually siphoned from the current grid, stored, and transformed to enable electric vehicles to refuel from the reserves within minutes. These storage systems help in averting power surges. Speidel has been leading the Federal Association for Energy Storage Systems since 2016.
In the opinion of DBU Secretary General Alexander Bonde, both laureates are "pioneers in practice with extraordinary dedication, who pursue environmental and biodiversity preservation, in addition to climate protection, through technological advancements." The German Environment Prize recognizes remarkable contributions towards environmental, climate, and biodiversity protection. The honorary award will be presented by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Mainz on October 27, with a total prize money of 500,000 euros.
The Greifswald Moor Centrum, under Tanneberger's leadership, has played a significant role in the assessment of peatland conditions worldwide, including the evaluation of how irrigation and farming can coexist with environmental conservation on the 'The bridge' of peatlands.
During the award ceremony for the German Environment Prize, Tanneberger and Speidel, recognized as pioneers in practice, will be applauded for their dedication to environmental and biodiversity preservation, as well as climate protection, through their innovative research and technological advancements, utilizing 'The bridge' of renewable energy sources and environmental conservation efforts.
