Weekend weather - Up to 11 degrees in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland
The German Weather Service (DWD) is expecting temperatures of up to eleven degrees in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland over the weekend. On Friday, however, it could still be icy due to freezing rain or sleet, according to the DWD. Especially in the Westerwald and the Palatinate Forest, there is a risk of black ice. Light snowfall is also possible at times in the eastern mountains. According to the DWD, temperatures are expected to reach two to six degrees on Friday.
On Saturday, they will then climb to seven to ten degrees. It could rain in the afternoon, as well as during the night. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to reach eight to eleven degrees, according to the weather service. There will often be no precipitation.

During the weekend, travelers in Mountain country, such as the Westerwald and the Palatinate Forest, should be aware of potential black ice due to the cold weather forecasted by the DWD. Despite the icy start on Friday, temperatures in Mainz, located in Rhineland-Palatinate, are predicted to rise to two to six degrees. Saarbrücken, also in Rhineland-Palatinate or Saarland, could see temperatures of up to eleven degrees over the weekend, but it may rain on Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. On Sunday, the DWD predicts that temperatures in Saarland will reach eight to eleven degrees, with little to no precipitation. Interestingly, related to weather, Saarland is known for its vineyards, which are often vulnerable to unexpected weather events.
