Munich Regional Court I - Unusual plea in murder trial over slain wife
In the retrial of a husband accused of murder, the defense made an unusual plea. His lawyer told the Munich I Regional Court on Friday that "the defendant is not so intelligent as to shoot his wife and then make up this story in a very short space of time." The fact that he had described the evening of the crime in the same way nine times over the past eight years also spoke in favor of the 64-year-old.
The prosecution, on the other hand, portrayed the accused as a brutal and violent person - the crime was not alien to his personality and should be punished with a life sentence. The prosecution assumes that the man killed his wife "driven by jealousy". On the other hand, the Bosnian said that his wife had suicidal thoughts. That evening, he had wanted to take a gun out of his wife's hand during a scuffle when a shot rang out.
The wife's death in 2015 had long been treated as a suicide. When it came to trial after all, the accused was acquitted despite the chamber's doubts. However, the Federal Court of Justice overturned this decision in December.
