Ukrainian military personnel employ searchlights while scouring the heavens above the city's heart for drones, following a Russian aerial assault with drones in Kyiv, Ukraine, on September 7, 2024.

Unmanned aerial vehicle remnants detected near Ukrainian parliament building, as Russia conducts widespread assault using 67 drones.

Russia launched 67 Shahed drones towards Ukraine, with 58 of them getting shot down by Ukrainian Air Force, according to a Telegram post on Saturday. These drones targeted various locations such as the northeastern city of Sumy, the southern city of Kherson, the central region of Poltava, and the capital of Kyiv.

The military administration head of Kyiv, Serhii Popko, referred to this incident as "another massive drone attack" on the city, in his own Telegram post. There seems to be a drone that was brought down over the Ukrainian parliament, as pictures circulating online display debris scattered near the building's entrance.

As per Popko's statements, Kyiv's air defenses successfully shot down all the Russian drones that approached the city around 3am local time (8pm ET). None of the drones were able to reach their targets during this attack.

Thankfully, there were no damages to critical or residential infrastructure during the attack, as confirmed by the region's military chief, Ruslan Kravchenko, in a separate Telegram post. There have been no reports of casualties either, despite air raid sirens continuing to sound for over eight hours, as mentioned by Kravchenko.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has been actively advocating for additional air defenses for Ukraine in response to the relentless series of Russian attacks across the country.

At a recent forum in Italy, Zelensky emphasized that Russia has launched "missiles, attack drones, and heavy aircraft bombs" against Ukrainian cities and villages, disregarding their size.

On September 1 and 2, the northeastern city of Kharkiv suffered from missile and bomb attacks respectively. The next day, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on a military educational facility in the central city of Poltava, resulting in over 55 casualties. On September 4, the western city of Lviv, which was previously believed to be relatively safe from Russian attacks, was hit by a missile strike targeting civilian infrastructure, resulting in seven deaths.

The world is closely monitoring the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with Europe expressing concern over the frequent drone attacks. Following the incident in Kyiv, Europaurgent, a European security platform, urged Russia to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and refrain from such aggression.
