- Unknown stabs 39-year-old man in the stomach in central Berlin
Unknown man stabs 39-year-old at U-Bahnhof Jannowitzbrücke in Berlin-Mitte with a knife. The victim was taken to the hospital with a severe abdominal stab wound in the early hours of Sunday, according to Berlin police. There is no longer any risk to his life.
A couple witnessed the two men, with one of them making a "stabbing motion," causing the 39-year-old to collapse, police said. The suspect fled the scene. Police are investigating the case under suspicion of dangerous bodily harm.
Just last Friday evening, a 39-year-old stabbed a man in the neck with a knife in Berlin-Neukölln. The previous night, an 18-year-old sustained stab and cut wounds to his leg during an attack in Berlin-Mitte.
In response to the increase in knife attacks, Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) plans to tighten gun laws. She announced in "Bild am Sonntag" that she will "further restrict the carrying of knives in public spaces" in the new gun law.
The incident at U-Bahnhof Jannowitzbrücke adds to the concerning trend of knife crimes in Berlin. Authorities are urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
