Unknown persons smear memorial: police investigate
Unknown persons have graffitied the memorial to the victims of fascism in Zwickau. The perpetrators sprayed the words "AFD-Wählen 2025" (AFD Vote 2025) in blue paint on the memorial at Schwanenteich, as the Zwickau police reported on Sunday. Unknown persons had painted over the slogan with green paint and the words "Anti-fascism now". Police officers reportedly discovered the graffiti on Saturday morning. A spokeswoman was initially unable to say on Sunday morning whether they had already been removed. The police are now investigating damage to property.
The act of defacing the memorial is a stark example of extremism, using it as a canvas for political propaganda. This incident, involving the smearing of slogans related to a political party, could potentially be classified as a hate crime.
