According to what the police have learned so far, the teenager, who was wearing a nikab, was waiting at the bus stop at Elbgaustraße S-Bahn station on Sunday evening when she was racially insulted by a man. The man then punched her in the face, among other things, police said on Monday. The teenager fled to escape further assaults. Paramedics later treated the 14-year-old, who suffered minor injuries.

The police are now looking for witnesses who saw the incident. State security has taken over the investigation. The unknown man is about 40 to 45 years old, rather short, bald and of normal build.

The nikab is a face veil that is worn in addition to a robe. A nikab is usually black, covers the entire face and leaves only a slit for vision.
