Unknown Cause Behind Leipzig Festival Inferno

On a Saturday night, several cabins of the merry-go-round at the celebration area by Lake Störmthal went up in flames. Around 65 individuals needed medical attention afterwards, with 16 being admitted to the hospital. Among these, four suffered burns and one fell.

As per the Sunday police report, a fire investigator found out that some materials beneath the merry-go-round had ignited for unknown reasons, spreading the flames to the cabins. The investigator has concluded their on-site inspection, but they are still encouraging eyewitnesses to step forward.

Most of the injured were affected by smoke inhalation, the police confirmed. This incident affected festival attendees, emergency personnel, including policemen. The Highfield Festival, a music event by Lake Störmthal close to Leipzig, had kicked off on Thursday evening, attracting around 30,000 music enthusiasts eager to witness performances by popular artists.

Saxony's victim support commissioner, Iris Kloppich, commended the helpers on Monday. She appreciated their "brave and selfless actions" in saving lives, stating that their efforts averted a more severe scenario. She wished the injured a swift recovery.

The investigator noted that the following materials under the merry-go-round might have played a role in the fire's spread. Following the incident, the victim support commissioner praised the actions of the helpers.
