Universities, theaters, Wilhelma: preparations for warning strikes
Citizens in Baden-Württemberg must be prepared for warning strikes by public sector employees in the coming weeks. Work stoppages are being prepared, the Verdi trade union announced in Stuttgart on Friday.
According to Verdi, the second round of wage negotiations for the public sector of the federal states in Potsdam had previously been unsuccessful. Verdi announced that work stoppages at universities, state authorities, psychiatric centers, state theaters and Wilhelma were possible until the third round of negotiations at the beginning of December.
After the second round of negotiations, Verdi regional director Martin Gross expressed his disappointment. "The tax estimate is more than stable, but the states are counting themselves poor. State employees do the same work, but are expected to earn over ten percent less than their colleagues in the municipalities."
The trade unions are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more. Junior staff should receive 200 euros more. The wage agreement is to run for 12 months.
In the current dispute, federal states are facing potential trade union actions due to unsuccessful wage negotiations for the public sector. Tariffs could be a point of contention as Verdi is demanding a significant salary increase for their members.
