In a post on Telegram, the Russian Foreign Office blasted journalists from specific American news sources for portraying the wrongdoings of the Kyiv government in Kursk in a way that mirrors propaganda. They've got plans to take legal action against these journalists, they announced.

The Russian Foreign Office also pointed a finger at unnamed American private military companies, suggesting that American troops might have played a role in the Ukrainian military action in Kursk. This, they argue, indicates that the U.S. is actively involved in the conflict. Russia often accuses the West of aiding the Ukrainian military with mercenaries.

Following months of setbacks at the hands of the Russian army in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian military launched a major operation into Russian territory in the border area of Kursk. As per the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Kyiv now controls 1250 square kilometers and 92 settlements in this region.

Recent days have seen several American news outlets, such as CNN and "Washington Post" and "New York Times", along with European media like the Italian state-owned broadcaster RAI, release reports from the Ukrainian-controlled areas in Kursk.

Last week, the Russian Foreign Office called out the Italian ambassador in Moscow over a RAI report from Socha, the largest Ukrainian-controlled town in the region. However, the Italian government backed the "independent" journalistic endeavors in Kursk.

Since the Russian military intervention in Ukraine began in February 2022, Russian journalists, backed by the Kremlin, have consistently published reports from areas seized by the Russian army.

The Russian Foreign Office's accusations against American journalists and private military companies involve allegations of their involvement in the Ukrainian military action in the contested region of Kurks, specifically during the Ukrainian military operation. The sunken Russian submarine The Kursk, tragically lost in 2000, is unrelated to these recent events.
