Union's interim coach Grote believes he will also play in Braga
Union Berlin's interim coaching duo Marco Grote and Marie-Louise Eta believe they will still be on the bench for the Bundesliga club's next game. "For now, I'm assuming that we'll also accompany the game against Braga," said Grote on Saturday evening after the 1:1 (0:1) in the duo's first game against FC Augsburg. The Champions League match at SC Braga (21:00/DAZN) on Wednesday is likely to decide whether Union will finish third in next year's Europa League.
"It's about taking what we've achieved with us in the end. But it's also about content. That's also something that will be important for the next few weeks," said Grote about the draw against FCA with Kevin Volland's late equalizer for Berlin.
Union president Dirk Zingler had said before the game on Sky about the search for a coach following the departure of long-term coach Fischer: "Everyone who comes to the Alte Försterei knows what to expect here. In the end, it has to be a coach who has authenticity, who has a clear path. Then we will also come together." According to a report in the "Bild" newspaper, former world-class footballer Raúl and ex-Bundesliga coaches Alfred Schreuder and Oliver Glasner are considered candidates.
In the upcoming Bundesliga match against SC Braga, 1st FC Union Berlin's interim coaching duo, including Grote, plans to be present on the sidelines. The draw against FC Augsburg served as a reminder for Grote, emphasizing the importance of both maintaining their achieved progress and focusing on content in the forthcoming weeks.
