Female Football - Union women set for second division advance - leading 8:0 in relegation's first half
The Union Berlin women's team is gearing up for the second-tier football league with a dominant performance in their relegation match. Facing the Regionalliga Nord champion, SV Henstedt-Ulzburg, the Iron Ladies cruised to an 8:0 (4:0) victory.
As the unbeaten champions of the Regionalliga Nordost and holders of the Berlin Cup, Union outshone their opponents in every aspect during Sunday's game. More than 18,000 fans packed Stadion An der Alten Försterei to witness the action.
Sarah Abu Sabbah scored three goals, with two of them coming from penalty kicks (31st minute and 54th), while Dina Orschmann notched two, including a breathtaking backheel (43rd and 66th). Pia Metzker (17th), Lisa Heiseler (39th), and Lisa Göpfert (86th) also contributed to the kill. This win made Union the only team in the league to have taken all 27 games without a single loss.
The Iron Ladies set a new attendance record for women's football at 1. FC Union, as the 18,045 spectators eclipsed the previous record of 12,511 fans, which was recently set during the contest against Hertha BSC (5:0) on April 28th. In contrast, the return match will be held next Sunday at Stadion Beckersberg near Hamburg, with a far smaller crowd. Only 1,500 spectators are permitted, giving Union the option to purchase 250 tickets.
