The players of 1. FC Union Berlin are aware that they still need to work on the goal spectacle against Glasgow Rangers in the second training camp before the start of the season. The 4:4 at the home premiere of trainer Bo Svensson showed the strengths of the team as well as the weaknesses. It was a "wild game", mentioned veteran Christopher Trimmel and urged for more compactness.

"Offensively, we've seen many good things, defensively it wasn't as good", said Janik Haberer, who scored two goals at Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday. "When do we press? When do we drop back? That's still a process. At the back, the opponent had large spaces at times and they punished us for it. There is still potential for improvement."

Haberer (5th and 41st minute), Janik Haberer (21st/penalty), and youngster David Preu (59th) scored the goals for the Bundesliga side against the Scottish traditional club. "In some phases of the game, especially with the ball, I've seen many good things", said Svensson.

The 44-year-old, who is starting his first season with Union, added: "We also learned defensively that you get punished if the timing isn't right. In the end, it's also a good experience."

They will build on this in the training camp in Neuruppin. A total of eight training sessions will be held there, most of which will be public. After the return, there is a test game against Olympique Lyon in the Alten Försterei on Saturday for the season opener.

The first league game is scheduled for August 17 in the first round of the DFB Pokal against Greifswalder FC. The Bundesliga opener is against Svensson's former employer FSV Mainz 05 on August 24.
