Bo Svensson, the coach of 1. FC Union Berlin, isn't guaranteeing starting spots ahead of his inaugural match in the Bundesliga. "We need more players than the eleven who take the field. We'll see who's in the mix. Everyone's done a great job so far," said the 45-year-old in anticipation of the Friday game (8:30 PM/DAZN) against FC St. Pauli.

Just like in the 1-1 draw at his previous club 1. FSV Mainz 05 last weekend, Svensson plans to deploy the pros best suited to counter the opponent's strengths. "We only do what we think gives us the best chance of winning," said Svensson, highlighting several factors in player selection, "it's a game-by-game decision, a blend of various aspects, including form. We won't limit our focus to the opponent being a newcomer or a home game."

Svensson forecasts a tight contest. Despite FC Heidenheim's 2-0 victory over the rookies, he views Alexander Blessin's team as the stronger side unlucky to lose: "They're well-drilled. It'll be a close game where we'll need the home crowd's backing."

At the same time, Svensson stresses team camaraderie. As in Mainz, there will be dissatisfied players on Friday: "But that's professional football: personal dissatisfaction, yes, but also empathy for the team." Particularly since players from the bench like Tim Skarke and new signing and goalscorer László Benes injected fresh energy into Mainz.

Compliments for Jeong

Against Hamburg, the Bundesliga rival's recent signee Woo-yeong Jeong could also feature. "He brings something unique to the table. He navigates between the lines and has a knack for the crucial pass," said Svensson, who can also depend on Kevin Vogt, who suffered an injury and was substituted in Mainz. The defensive linchpin has participated in all training sessions: "We believe he'll be part of the action."

Soccer is the sport that Bo Svensson is focused on as he prepares for his inaugural match in the Bundesliga. He plans to deploy the best players to counter the opponent's strengths, just as he did in the 1-1 draw at 1. FSV Mainz 05.
