Union coach Bjelica: Always a "soldier of the club"
Union Berlin's new coach Nenad Bjelica wants to put himself fully at the service of the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club. "I have always been a soldier of the club. I will adapt to the club's strategy," said the 52-year-old Croatian at his presentation on Sunday, adding: "As a coach, you always have to adapt to the team you have."
Bjelica is regarded as a strict coach who places great value on discipline on the pitch. "I like discipline. I like organization. Clear tasks for each individual. I like players who do simple things perfectly," said the coach about his footballing preferences.
Off the pitch, Bjelica, who once played for 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga, sees himself as the players' "best friend". "I take a very human approach to management. My door is always open to anyone who pays me back on the pitch. Those who perform will have their best friend in Nenad Bjelica. Those who don't will have problems," Urs Fischer's successor made clear.
There is not much time left until Christmas to shape the team according to his ideas. The next game is already scheduled for Wednesday (21:00/DAZN) with the Champions League match at SC Braga. This will be followed by games against FC Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Real Madrid. "This was the right time to get involved. I have no problem with it at all. I've already had games like this in my career," said the 52-year-old.
