New access - Union Berlin signs goalkeeper Carl Klaus
The 1. FC Union Berlin has signed goalkeeper Carl Klaus, who was previously unemployed. The Bundesliga club announced that the 30-year-old impressed during his trial period with Union. "I'm glad I could prove myself during the probationary periods at Union and am now a permanent member of the team," Klaus said. Horst Heldt, the new business manager of Berlin's team, described Klaus as a big help who made an immediate impact.
Klaus was the second goalkeeper for 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2. Bundesliga last season. However, he took over as the number one goalkeeper during the season and played in 19 league games for the "Club" between the posts. At Union, he completes the previously three-man goalkeeper squad consisting of Frederik Rönnow, Alexander Schwolow, and youth goalkeeper Yannic Stein.
Despite his successful stint at 1. FC Nürnberg, Klaus is now excited for the new access to the Bundesliga with 1. FC Union Berlin. Germany's transfer market has seen Klaus' move from a secondary role to a more prominent one, joining the likes of Frederik Rönnow and Alexander Schwolow at Berlin's Bundesliga side. This migration to Union Berlin could potentially open up opportunities for future transfers within the Bundesliga.
