- Union advocates advocate for increased solidarity in Solingen's political landscape.
Following the brutal assault in Solingen, the German Police Union (DPolG) has urged for stronger political unity. "It's high time for politics to work collectively rather than impeding each other or one-upping each other with declarations," the union stated.
Historically, Solingen has witnessed numerous assaults and knife-related incidents, which underscores the urgency for swift action. Furthermore, the number of knife assaults has spiked remarkably in Hesse. Nonetheless, weapon-free zones or stricter firearm regulations cannot single-handedly thwart targeted attacks or homicides.
In the union's viewpoint, "radicalism in backyard mosques" across the nation needs to be tackled. Reinforcements in immigration offices, public prosecutors' offices, courts, police, and domestic intelligence services are also advocated for. Moreover, public areas should have increased video surveillance.
A knife attack in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, left three individuals dead on a recent Friday. The Federal Prosecutor's Office assumed control over the investigation and targeted a suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian, for murder and suspected affiliation with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS). At present, the suspect is in custody.
The increase in knife assaults in Hesse, similar to Solingen, highlights the need for enhanced police resources. Addressing radicalism in mosques and reinforcing various law enforcement agencies could potentially deter future violent crimes.
