Consequences of war - Unexploded bomb from the Second World War defused
Experts from the explosive ordnance disposal service have defused a 250 kilogram World War II bomb in the Southern Palatinate. The unexploded bomb was discovered last Thursday during the construction of a forest path in a forest between Rinnthal and Annweiler in the district of Südliche Weinstraße. Due to the aerial bomb from the Second World War, the federal highway 10 and the Landau-Pirmasens railroad line had to be closed for a short time, as the Annweiler am Trifels municipality announced on Monday. Around 70 residents had to leave their homes as a precaution for the defusing operation.

The defusing operation in the Southern Palatinate serves as a reminder of the ongoing consequences of war in the region, particularly from the Second World War. The Emergencies Service in Rhineland-Palatinate often faces challenges due to the large number of World War bombs still buried in the area. The unexploded bomb and subsequent closures can have significant economic consequences for local businesses and commuters.
