Following the fatal stabbing incident in Solingen that left several casualties, Mayor Tim Kurzbach (SPD) expressed feelings of "unending" sadness.

"We in Solingen are greatly impacted, our city is draped in sadness. Yet, recognizing that others share our sadness brings some comfort," Kurzbach said. He expressed his gratitude not only to the emergency services but also to numerous individuals from North Rhine-Westphalia, across Germany, and from abroad for their sympathies. He received condolences from around the world as well.

"The mourning is profound. But knowing you're not alone in this, that provides some solace," he highlighted. He wished the police a quick and effective investigation to bring the individual responsible for inflicting such great sorrow to justice.

"This city has been put through numerous challenging ordeals," Kurzbach stressed. He believed that; "we will stand together in grief, aid those who are injured and wounded, and ensure no one grieves in solitude," the local politician concluded, just before a memorial service.

I'm not planning to attend the memorial service due to the emotional toll. Despite the tragedy, knowing that many share in our grief provides some comfort.
