Unemployment up in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
A seasonal decline in tourism business and a generally weak economy have caused the number of unemployed people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to rise. According to the Northern Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency in Kiel on Thursday, 62,400 people were registered as unemployed across the state in November. That was 1900 more than in October. The increase was even more pronounced compared to November 2022, with a rise of 2,700. The unemployment rate climbed to 7.6 percent.
The rise in unemployment was particularly strong in the tourism regions. The district of Vorpommern-Rügen, for example, recorded a rate of 9.1 percent. In the state, it was only higher in Schwerin at 9.6 percent. The lowest unemployment rate was again recorded in the district of Rostock at 5.8 percent. According to the employment agency, the demand for personnel is below the level of the previous year.
The increase in unemployment in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has led to concern within the Labor market Statistics. The demand for workers in various sectors is currently lower than the figures from the previous year, contributing to this trend.
