Unemployment rate in Saxony-Anhalt stagnates
The unemployment rate in Saxony-Anhalt has stagnated at 7.3 percent. As the regional directorate of the employment agency announced on Thursday, around 80,300 people were registered as unemployed in November. Compared to November last year, the unemployment rate rose from 7.1 to 7.3 percent. In a state comparison, the rate was thus below that of Bremen, Berlin, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
It is noticeable that there are slightly more long-term unemployed than a year ago, said Regional Directorate Head Markus Behrens. In addition, fewer new jobs were reported for the third month in a row. This was particularly strong in the manufacturing industry, the hospitality industry, business management and temporary work. Companies were reluctant to hire new staff, said Behrens. "We do not expect a slump on the labor market in the coming months, although unemployment will rise at the end of the year and the beginning of the new year due to seasonal factors."
The stagnation in the unemployment rate might be impacting the overall dynamics of the Labor market in Saxony-Anhalt. Despite the slight increase in long-term unemployment, companies are still hesitant to increase their workforce, indicating a cautious approach in the Labor market.
