- Unemployment in Thuringia increased

Thuringia's job market is experiencing a summer lull. In July, the number of unemployed rose to 70,000, according to the regional office of the Federal Employment Agency. This was an increase of 2,800 from June. The unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. Last year in July 2023, the rate was 5.9 percent. Among the unemployed, there were almost 7,500 young people, an increase of about 900 from June and around 800 more than a year ago. The unemployment rate for those under 25 was 7.2 percent. According to the regional office, nearly 1,600 young people registered as unemployed after completing vocational training, internships, or studies. The regional office attributed this to the ongoing impact of a weakening economy. Overall, job vacancies in Thuringia have been significantly lower than last year since the beginning of the year.

The rising unemployment figures in Thuringia have raised concerns about the state's employment and social security situation. Addressing this issue, local authorities are exploring ways to boost employment opportunities and improve social security provisions for its residents.
