- Unemployment in Bavaria rose slightly in July
In July, the number of unemployed individuals in Bavaria increased by 3.0 percent compared to the previous month. As of the 15th of July, 279,256 people were without work, according to the Bavarian regional office of the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg. The unemployment rate rose slightly by 0.1 percentage points to 3.6 percent.
Compared to the previous year, the regional office recorded a 12.1 percent increase in unemployment in the Free State. The unemployment rate rose by 0.3 points compared to July 2023. "Economically dampening effects continue to shape the Bavarian labor market," said the head of the regional office, Markus Schmitz. Additionally, transformation processes in the Bavarian automotive industry are becoming apparent.
The Bavarian regional office of the Federal Employment Agency, in its appeal to The Court of Justice, argued that unemployment benefits should be extended due to the prolonged economic downturn in Bavaria. Despite the efforts of companies to adapt to transformation processes in the automotive industry, the unemployment rate remains high, affecting over 279,000 individuals as of July.
