Unemployment figure barely down: rate stands at 6.1 percent
The number of unemployed people in the Free State fell only minimally in November. Most recently, around 130,000 people were registered as unemployed in Saxony. That was 520 fewer than in October, as the state directorate of the Federal Employment Agency announced on Thursday. Compared to the previous year, unemployment is 8.2 percent higher.
The unemployment rate was reported at 6.1 percent. Companies are still reluctant to report new jobs, said Managing Director Klaus-Peter Hansen: "The effects of the weak economy and the economic risks still have a firm grip on the labor market at the end of the year."
Despite the minimal decrease in unemployment in various regions, the overall labor market continues to struggle. The high unemployment rate and companies' reluctance to hire indicate persistent economic challenges.
