- Underground train encounters head-on collision with grocery trolley.
A train on the S9 line in Gelsenkirchen crashed into a supermarket trolley. Fortunately, no passengers were harmed, as reported by the national authorities. Train service was not affected by the incident. The incident occurred around 11 pm on a Friday, as the train was moving between the Gelsenkirchen-Buer and Westerholt stations. Even with the emergency brakes applied, the driver was unable to avoid hitting the obstacle.
The driver and a train crew member gathered the damaged trolley pieces, completed the journey, and eventually parked the train at Recklinghausen's sidetrack. The federal law enforcement started an investigation into potential obstruction of train services. They're currently collecting witness testimonies.
The driver mentioned seeing an abandoned supermarket trolley on the tracks before the crash, but it was too late to prevent the collision. Despite the incident, some passengers decided to continue their journey on the Subway, using an alternative train.
