- Under the leadership of Johannes Bitter, Hamburg handball team now has a new chairperson
Goalkeeper Johannes Bitter is set to take on a dual role in HSV Hamburg's handball team in the forthcoming period. The 41-year-old will not only defend the goalposts for the Bundesliga side but will also assume the position of Vice-President.
Bitter is part of the new governing body led by President Kay Spanger, which has replaced the previous leadership team headed by President Marc Evermann and Vice-President Martin Schwalb. As before, Jana Fuhrmann and Sven Hielscher are also part of this team.
Bitter is thrilled about his new role, "I've been contributing to the club's growth off the field since my return to Hamburg. I'm now excited to officially take on this role while continuing with my on-field activities. We all see the untapped potential in this club, and I'm eager to contribute to its growth as a member of the governing body."
Evermann and Schwalb relinquished their positions after eight years following an investigation into the club's recent history. HSV Hamburg only recently secured its Bundesliga license for the 2024/25 season. Evermann and former coach Schwalb played a significant part in rebuilding the club after its insolvency in January 2016.
Bitter and the team will kick off the new season with an away game against Frisch Auf Göppingen on September 6.
Bitter's dual role in HSV Hamburg includes not only playing as a goalkeeper in the Handball league but also serving as Vice-President in the club's new governing body. The Handball league is where HSV Hamburg will commence their new season with an away game against Frisch Auf Goepingen on September 6.
