The biggest airline operator at Munich's main hub is preparing for a strike starting Tuesday, just two weeks before the conclusion of school holidays in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Despite this, Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines has pledged to run as many flights as feasible in the upcoming days. However, the specifics of this promise remained hazy on Monday afternoon.

The aviation unions, Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) and UFO, have urged pilots and cabin crew to participate in a four-day strike, extending from Tuesday to Friday. As of now, approximately 270 Discover flights on short, medium, and long-haul routes out of Frankfurt and Munich are scheduled during this period, according to the airline's announcement.

On Tuesday, Discover aims to run "numerous flights" and is working on alternatives for passengers whose flights might be canceled. The repercussions of the strike on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are still being evaluated. Affected passengers will be notified promptly and can also track their flight status online at https://www.lufthansa.com/de/de/flight-plan-and-flight-status#/.

Discover has positioned five short-haul aircraft in Munich, which make around 70 trips per week to 23 popular vacation spots. The airline operates exclusively from Frankfurt and Munich. The cause of this dispute is a labor dispute with Verdi, which has finalized the initial collective bargaining agreements for pilots and cabin crew at the budding airline Discover.

  1. Despite the ongoing strike, The Commission, which is responsible for mediating labor disputes in Germany, is actively engaging with Lufthansa and the affected unions to find a resolution.
  2. Once the strike is over, The Commission will conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that Discover and its employees adhered to the agreement reached during the mediation process.
