Unconventional Hidden Stash Method I Employ for Miscellaneous, Compact Items
struggling to find space for various items can be challenging, especially when you want to keep similar things together and assign them a specific spot in your home. As someone with numerous small items, I've been on a quest to find the perfect storage solution. However, my search took an unexpected turn when I started researching ways to store bag and handbag collections. Surprisingly, I discovered the answer was right under my nose - literally!
Tinkering with methods to organize all my bags led me to hanging them openly in my living space. But besides being stylish accessories, bags are essentially receptacles. Looking at the array of purses in front of me, I wondered if it wouldn't be practical to use them for storage, even when not in use.
In one bag, I put my sunnies. Another bag hosted all sun-related products like sunscreen, self-tanner, and illuminating lotion, along with their application tools. Travel-sized self-care items found their way into a third bag, great for trips to the beach or weekend getaways. Hair clips made their home in one bag, while swimwear took up space in another. I transformed my bags into a personalized first-aid kit for the summer months, but you can adapt this concept to your needs. Anything you have in large quantities, but limited storage space for, like socks, undershirts, or medication, can be stored in totes, purses, backpacks, or handbags.
The method's powerful allure
Miscellaneous items need to be grouped together so they can be easily located. This calls for a well-defined sorting system and compact containers. Designating specific storage spaces is crucial. I was initially daunted by the prospect of remembering where all my items were, but soon found myself effortlessly recalling that sunnies were in the black crossbody bag, swimwear was in the yellow totes, and so on. Using a container-centric system made it infinitely easier for me to recall the location of each category. This method works whether your bags are hung or housed on shelves. As long as they're organized in a coherent manner, your belongings will also be well-organized.
Another advantage of this method is that it encourages me to tidy up my bags when I need to use them. To utilize a bag outside the home, I have to unload its contents and store them in their designated spots. Creating a mess seemed inconvenient, but the temporary disarray was the push I needed to quickly clean up and hang the bag up again when I returned home.
Just ensure that the categories align with the size and construction of your bags. Heavy items should ideally not be stored in single-strap or bottomless bags; opt for dual-strap bags with a strong structure instead. The objective isn't to damage the bags but rather to maximize their utility while they're not in use.
This new storage method has allowed me to store my miscellaneous items more efficiently within my home. For instance, I've been using my handbags to store my sunnies, sunscreen, and self-tanner, making it easier to find and use them. Storing miscellaneous items in this way has also helped me declutter my living space by assigning a specific home to each item.
