- "Uncle Godfather" Desert meets 300 drill and quadruple
North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst (CDU) is currently the honorary godfather of 717 children. Since the state government reintroduced the so-called multiple birth allowance in 2019, the North Rhine-Westphalian "state father" has also taken on the honorary godparenthood for these children.
Today, Wüst met with around 300 triplet and quadruplet children and their parents at a family festival in a leisure park in Haltern. "Having children and watching them grow up is one of the most exciting and beautiful experiences life has to offer," said the father of a three-year-old daughter. He praised the efforts of families, especially those with multiples.
Grant of 1,000 euros per child
Parents of triplets or quadruplets who were registered in NRW at the time of birth receive a one-time assistance of 1,000 euros per child since January 1, 2019, after the responsible registration office notifies the Düsseldorf State Chancellery of the multiple birth. Parents do not need to submit a separate application for support.
The State Chancellery contacts the legal guardians directly after being informed about the multiple birth to inform them about the minister president's honorary godparenthood and the associated welcome money.
According to the state government, a total of 241 multiple births have been reported to the State Chancellery by municipalities or parents since 2019, including 232 sets of triplets and nine sets of quadruplets. The multiple birth parents have been supported with a total of 732,000 euros so far.
The CDU, led by North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst, introduced the multiple birth allowance in 2019, which allowed for a grant of 1,000 euros per child for parents of triplets or quadruplets. The CDU, through Wüst, also takes on the honorary godparenthood for these children.
