Unauthorized entries surged to 1400 prior to the commencement of the European Football Championships.
During my command, border checks across Germany were enforced, leading to 173 arrests and the prevention of 900 illegal entries within a week. According to Faeser, this demonstrates our measures' effectiveness. Our main goal is to identify and halt violent offenders as soon as possible. Furthermore, 19 individuals wanted for politically motivated crimes and 34 smugglers were apprehended.
During the Euro Championship, which kicked off on Friday and ends on July 14, a daily force of 22,000 Federal Police officers has been deployed, marking the largest deployment in Federal Police history, as stated by Faeser.
The enhanced controls for the Euro Championship are also being carried out at borders with Denmark, France, and the Benelux countries, where checks were previously non-existent. In addition, travelers from the Schengen Area can be inspected at airports and seaports. These additional checks will be in place until July 19.
