- Unauthorized camping site in Harz to undergo dismantlement
An unauthorized encampment housing hundreds of individuals in the Harz region is scheduled to be dismantled. Since early afternoon, corresponding actions have been underway with police assistance, as per a joint announcement from the districts of Goslar and Göttingen. This operation is expected to last through the night. As per an eyewitness, around 1,500 individuals were dispersed across the wooded expanse between Bad Grund and Clausthal-Zellerfeld on Tuesday morning.
Adherents of the alleged Rainbow Family, who champion worldwide harmony among other causes, have been residing on the roughly 200-hectare site within a protected natural area for several days. Subsequently, the districts of Goslar and Göttingen imposed access restrictions. Violations could allegedly result in fines of up to €5,000.
Moon-themed pyre scheduled
The campers intend to stage a moon-themed pyre during the full moon on Wednesday night, a feat the districts aim to prevent. They have been diligently searching for alternative, lawful locations for the attendees.
The campers have already established numerous fire pits in the wooded area and are flouting the smoking ban, the district of Goslar revealed on Friday. This has raised safety concerns, including potential forest fires. Cars are also being towed away after being illegally parked and obstructing emergency routes.
Many depart, but more join
The district of Goslar also reported on Friday that many individuals had voluntarily vacated the unauthorized campsite. However, numerous others arrived over the weekend, mentioned participant Thomas T. In the morning, the ambiance in the camp was serene, with campers practicing meditation together for peace, as captured by a dpa photographer. The volunteer fire department surveyed the area using drones.
Newcomers arrive at regular intervals, said T. They plan to engage in nude dancing around the large pyre during the full moon. The fire will be ignited on a vast, treeless plaza. The attendees are reportedly deeply connected to nature and committed to clearing any waste post-event.
The unauthorized encampment situation has resulted in interventions from local authorities. The Commission, which includes districts Goslar and Göttingen, has taken measures to dismantle the encampment due to safety concerns. The Commission is actively seeking alternative locations for the campers to prevent any further issues.
